How dumb can I be? I’d guess fairly dumb based on past experience. On a more positive note, occasionally I learn something that at least I consider valuable or interesting. I’ve been messing around with an old computer. “OLD” you ask. Yep Win 98, Pentium II. Well I have the network in the office and nothing hooked to it. That came about fairly recently as the result of one system dieing. I possess 3 network adapters from junked out systems. No drivers though. I hear you say “just go online and get them.” OK the first adapter I searched and searched and kept coming up with questionable download sites plus one set of drivers didn’t work with 98 after stating it would. Mess around, mess around and etc. I just downloaded the adapters for the other 2 cards without problem from reputable sources with the proper setup system for the operating system. One of the challenges was after getting a driver I had to get it to the old system. A week or so ago I bought a flash drive –problem solved, right? NO! the old 98 system didn’t have new enough drivers to read the flash drive. Find drivers, install drivers-done. I think you can see where this is all going. After all the fun and frivolity, IF I can get one of the remaining adapter cards installed WITH drivers I’ll have an antiquated system that won’t run ANY current browsers and won’t like a network running a different operating system. I’m pretty sure that this experience has not provided much in the way of value or interest but has successfully kept me out of the poolhall and kept me entertained and “for that I think I should be thankful.” Sometimes experience is self valued, as in experience for sake of experience. There are ways of adapting specific experience to other situations but that creates another whole learning experience- I’m lost now and think I need an adapter.
