I must have giving myself a fine Dutch Uncle talking to yesterday. I was out and “doing” by 8:00 AM and knocked off at dark. I won’t say that production was at an all time high but it wasn’t something I’m ashamed of either. The demo of the fence/wall upper part was completed.
The following it what was/is doing it's job- but ugly.
Just so you don’t think I’ve been looking at a messed up ugly piece of construction like that for all these years- this is what it looks like from inside.
It was intended as wind break for those winter months when I’m trying to make it warm out there with the fireplace. Plus in the summer it keeps a lot of heat away from the area I attempt to cool. The challenge was always how to cover it up from the street side (West) without having to paint it continually. Originally it was built from scraps that were left over from other people’s projects I’d worked on. Unfortunately I had forgotten how I’d done it. As simple as it looks one tend to over look the basic concept here- Use what you have before buying material – I’ll probably want to change it in a few years any way & low expenditures. One of the most complicating factors is that there is steel channel iron under the beam and steel plates on both sides but only in the center section. That also was done with what was available many years before I entered this scene.
For the otter covering I’d used sun screen. I even remember what side job that came from but for the life of me I couldn’t recall How I held the ¼” wood panels in place or attached the sun screen down in a cavity between the double sided fence. When I demo’d it and saw how I’d done it, it made me want to cover it up QUICKLY. It wasn’t pretty but it has been there for many years (10-12) without incident.
All that just to better enjoy this.
