I regret to inform my readers that today marks the beginning of "heating season" at "old #5." Well not so much today but this evening anyway. In this old masonry & adobe building I need to get a head start to get the walls warm. I'm tired of not wanting to climb out of a warm bed into the chilling cold morning. Admittedly "cold" is a relative term but. . .
As I was contemplating my morning I heard a chain saw - Oh Oh what going on where. You understand that I'm required to investigate such things just to maintain my position in the community. On the South side facing the old ball diamond (now school play ground) there WAS a row of Oleanders growing along the old chain link security fence. They are mostly gone now and what remains will be gone soon. "Why" I asked one of the school employees working on making it happen. His response was "I learned a long time ago not to even wonder "why" if it says do it on a work order I'm on it." I asked about what was in store for the fence row. "Fill dirt and some yet to be listed on a work order plantings" was my answer. I'll admit that it looked a little messy because the Oleanders had grown through the fence and had been over trimmed last time but in times of "we're out of money and need a tax increase" by every agency getting taxes I think there might be more appropriate ways to invest the available funds. Just my humble opinion.
