This COULD be the day the Ford gets down from jackstands. I was ready to do that yesterday till I reexamined the transmission cooler lines into the transmission. I should not let them go. The drip is fairly regular and if they got worse I might not be aware of it till too late. Oh I could limp around town well enough PROBABLY but problems like that are so easily forgotten or overlooked and the results so critical that it wouldn’t be prudent. It took 3 parts stores to buy 2 quick connect fittings and a tool to remove the old ones. I’d already tried to buy the tool a couple of times and knew to not take a parts person’s word that a certain one would work so I took an old fitting with me and said “here is what it should do, show me it does it and then I’ll buy it.” Two stores later one tool finally actually worked. “I’ll take it” was my response. Now or at least when it hits 60 outside we’ll see if I can make it work in a very limited space.
Yesterday after draining the cooling system to change the lower radiator hose I was letting the yard blower dry the concrete under the car and decided to clean the aluminum wheels and tires. Good thing I did as the tire that I’ve been “keeping an eye on” is not looking healthy. It’s almost 10 years old and had been flat a while back. It’s got a crack that is opening up at a rate that means it could go any time. The best case scenario would likely still require a new tire and wheel. SO It seems that after a short test drive it’ll probably end up at the tire shop. The size is a very limiting factor and is obsolete. They still make them but generally they are not available used. There are so many vehicles that use them that used ones rarely show up. There are still a few fairly significant potential repairs that I may have to address but at this point they aren’t safety issues so I’m going to see how it handles before I get excited about working on them. As I was afraid the renovation of the Ford has gotten considerably more pricey that I’d hoped. Imagine that? I haven’t totaled all the receipts and frankly I may not but in the back of my mind I have a pretty good idea and I don’t want to dwell on it. (chuckle)
58 degrees at the moment. By the time I get my grubby greasy work cloths on it’ll be 60 degrees. I can work in 60 degrees and not complain much (about the temperature at least).
