Open wide and say AH, old Scout
The water pump is on but I got sidetracked. The front of the engine was so caked with crud - oil, dirt and rust from the leaking radiator that even imagining having to work an ANYTHING in that area sent chills through me. The fuel pump, power steering pump and alternator, all considered wear items that do need replaced from time to time, reside locally, right there. Sooo I started chipping, scrapping and spraying, chipping, scrapping and spraying and all that again and again. The goal is NOT for show- it's so if/when I need to work on something in that area I will, at least, be able to find the bolt heads etc. The plan- yesterday as I was planning to knock off- I thought one more time. I soaked it well with solvent and left it to do it's job. This morning when the temperature works for me, I'll give it one more cleaning bath and put the fan & clutch on it and proceed. I hope to roar to the gas pump first thing- the gas gauge hasn't worked since I've had the old Scout and somewhere along with all the recent attention it's gotten I neglected to track the mileage- I carry a gas can anyway - it's the walk to and from a station that I would not like.
