It seems that my expectations of productivity Friday were way out of line. Oh and in addition to that I got distracted. (chuckle) I also found one if the Agave had blown over. It was about 12+’ tall and too top heavy. They are the ones with the stalk that grows a small tree on the very top. It was just ready for the buds to break forth and a wind must have it exactly wrong. It’s what topped off the dumpster Friday evening. Pickup is Sat. so about half of it went in that load and Sunday the rest got cut up and in this week’s dumpster load. They are an undertaking to cut up and dispose of. The leaves are edged with thorns and the trunk gets to about 5” diameter x way tall. That’s done but I need to consider the other two that are about that stage. Do I support them or let nature have her way? Whatever, the end result is about the same- cut them up and dispose of them.
I did get out to Adam & Trindal’s Saturday and had good time. I think the heat scared away a lot of folks. They were setup and prepared for I’d guess 40 people. About 12 showed. Sunday became a little kick back time after the Agave was finished AND the grass cut & trimmed and the patios cleaned etc, that all took place when the temperature was about 118 degrees. By the time I was sitting with a book and beverage it was down to 112 and I was sitting directly in front of an evap. cooler. I’ll admit that felt pretty good by them. I also hung old bed sheets over the west side of the tomato plants. The produce was cooking on the vines- I could be out of the business for this season as that afternoon sun is just too intense for them. We’ll see if the sheet helps.
As soon as I get the dishes washed and the bathroom vanity cleaned off the inside should be company ready. The exterior is about as good as can be maintained BUT I haven’t addressed food. Be it snacks or a meal. I can’t believe how an undertaking that has become. Maybe it is having to do it all along or maybe it’s the lack of high interest in cooking that I once had - whatever it is - I can’t seem to shake it off. Oh Well – it is what it is.
