The shop may not get get as good a cleaning/re-arranging as I’d hoped. Yes it was just too nice today to have to focus on throwing stuff away and deciding how to pack similar usable- but not needed right now items and THEN where to put them. Yeah Yard work. The last time I tackled the outer yard I’d waited a little long so I thought – get it done Crusty. Well it turned out to be a major undertaking anyway. MAJOR undertaking – I was working in the front yard and kept looking at the yard of the apartment building next door- OK I know the owner in CA – no help, I know the management company – less than no help. It was a mess and no one cares much. The tenants sure don’t and frankly I don’t blame them much. OK, so while doing my front yard I did a hit or miss job on it. The pile of limbs from the monster tree are trimmed to handle and in a pile by the curb. The garbage that had accumulated in the limb pile is gone, the weeds that grow where grass hasn’t been for years is cut and their sidewalk is free of fallen leaves. I realized while doing it I had come to hate the mess – I didn’t do it for the tenants, the management company or the owner. No it wasn’t any form of unselfish act- it was purely and completely for ME. When I come home or go to the mail box or just wonder out front I WILL feel better. Sometimes that’s a good investment – sometimes.
Such a great afternoon & evening yesterday! I even enjoyed the drive home- roaring down the freeway at 75-80 mph (till I realized it) in the old brown mule - Scout. Sherry’s friends at work used to tease her about driving “the bomb.” It sure didn’t bother her – I’m pretty sure she actually liked it. I also realized something last night– part of the pleasure of driving it is KNOWING you WILL pay attention. It’s OLD, it’s LOUD, so you do listen for unusual noises, steering feel OK? Are my lights all working (yeah they can be a problem), How does the engine sound? You get the idea. I was moving right along keeping up (almost) with traffic and noticed in the mirrors there were Red & Blue flashing lights coming my way in a HURRY. Flipped my signal lights on and started for the right lane, got over ONE lane and traffic wouldn’t let me over nor did anyone even have their signals on or slowing down. I was the only one who even knew. Whoo – I’m usually heavy into defensive driving (good plan in AZ) but that was crazy. I’m sharing the road with a bunch of idiots I realized. The cost of a ticket for not adhering to slowing and getting over for an emergency vehicle, especially a cop, is HUNDREDS & HUNDREDS of $$$$. He/she was indeed on the way to an accident on an off ramp. OK all that wasn’t what I was referring to when I said I enjoyed the drive home but was eye opener and a heads up. I know that after an especially fun, great time with dear friends is what prompted my joy.
New Years Eve plans – Yep I got some – even if I’m breaking the law (no burn law – announced via a web site if you happen to care enough to go check) I plan on a big fire in the outside fireplace, a book and beverage (s). Might just be some music and some remembrances of other New Years Eve celebrations. They used to include Sherry & I renewing our “contract” on a cocktail napkin. Just a silly thing we did after the first few years together. Oh Oh Too early to get into that but of this you can be assured – it won’t include being awake for the ball dropping.
