I think the pace around "old #5" must be getting out of hand OR more likely is that I’m slowing down. For the sake of compromise maybe a little of both. Load that a little heavy on the second idea.
The Ford is still on jack stands in back. New u-joints that were needed ( old ones appeared to be original with one really bad cap) BUT didn’t relieve the noise I’m chasing. Looks like it’s going to be a larger project than I’d hoped for. It’s about down to wheel bearings (not likely at all) or internal differential issues. Internal differential is not my cup of tea. Not to say that IF I open it up I probably can see the issue but fixing it – probably use a “PRO.” Wow that even hurts to type! There is procedure involved – a certain order AND SOMETIME YOU JUST PLAIN NEED FOUR HANDS plus the fearful old question of “how far to take a rebuild on 30 year old car.” Oh Well- THEN do I take my chances on one from a junk yard (same age etc as the one I’d be replacing) or spend the big bucks and replace HOW MUCH with pricey new parts? I won’t try to sell it as it is- a lot of folks wouldn’t hear or know what the noise is BUT I DO. I might be looking for a replacement vehicle –Nah- probably not- (chuckle) Bite the bullet – Call my mobile mechanic Buddy –
Shorty came home with TWO 10x20’ tarp covered carports ! The entire south drive might get covered- IF he decides to leave his “new to him” Explorer plus my trailer and I’ll still have room to work on something else (Hopefully). I think we all will have to see them in place and then decide if it’s acceptable. It’s not like the sky view is exceptional anyway. Being in the MIDST of the 3rd largest city in Arizona the sky view is limited to dawn & dusk IF you’re standing in the RIGHT place.
