From Monday, December 19, 2011 post the minor irritation is being addressed. I’m making a new concrete cover for the cleanout hole. Some adjustments to the actual pipe were called for. The original was a bit too long (tall) for a concrete cover to fit. The steel one was hollow so that the pipe could extend a bit upward. Cutting the clay pipe wasn’t much of a challenge with the right tool but a lot of care went into assuring no pieces of pipe fell into the cleanout. That tile wouldn’t ever dissolve if it fell into the sewer line and I know of problems there already. I have to desire to be forced to get into those problems. A bag a concrete mix, some re-bar should provide the materials but first I need a form. Hey it ain’t rocket science but I’ll probably attempt to make it a lot more complicated that necessary. Yeah that sort of sounds like fun. Make the cover conform to the old cracked and sinking concrete housing while being level on the upper surface – Maybe even setting some landscape gravel into the top surface to disguise it. Well see if that last part happens. I started taking pictures yesterday afternoon as I prepared.
