The local natives will be happy today. The sky looks like one single cloudbank. It actually makes me wonder why the rain isn’t falling already. It’s been like that most of the night and only getting more so. According to those who prognosticate such things, the odds are quite good for some of that rain stuff for the next few days. “Oh Joy” he says with a tad more than a hint of sarcasm. I know, I know we have to some from time to time. It just isn’t my “cup tea.”
Speaking of rare happenings- I just had a fresh doughnut! I haven’t had a doughnut of that description for so long that I can’t remember when it was. A local market most noted for it’s salsa, chips and beans along with some really poor cuts of meat has the best donuts I’ve had in many years PLUS there’re giant and very reasonable. Whatever the medicos say sometimes you just need a doughnut. For me not just any doughnut satisfies that need- gotta be good! Often if I’m really enjoying one those especially good ones my mind wonders (well that might happen too often) backward to long gone times. Dropping the kids and their mother off at church and then joining my bro-in-law for Sunday school at the doughnut shop. Well it wasn’t really Sunday school we just referred to it that way for some reason. To the best of my recollection that’s the only time just he and I got together. Then there’s all the blueberry cake donuts Ewing and I enjoyed. Probably too often, we were supposed to have been at the Real Estate office across the street. Maybe extremely cloudy, cool and quiet mornings are the appropriate opportunity to revisit some long gone times. Just don’t let it become a habit or folks will start to think you’re getting old and/or slipping.
