A friend from long ago commented about making a trip to peach country to get fresh peaches. Oh how I remember those trips with my folks. Not with much enthusiasm I’ll admit but I can tell you about my mother’s peach pie and cobblers’. Right now I could use a big piece that her peach pie even if there weren’t any ice cream for it. My mother wasn’t a great cook but she could do pies & cobblers better than any I’ve ever had. She was taught by a distant relative – always referred to Aunt Elsie. I actually remember “Aunt Elsie.” I don’t think she was actually my mother’s aunt at all. I remember seeing peanuts growing in her garden AND I remember breakfast at her house. A big platter of eggs floating in bacon grease, about every kind of meat I ever associated with breakfast and – OH YEAH Biscuits – Oh The biscuits ! HUM- Now that I think of it – I haven’t eaten recently (chuckle). I best do something about that BEFORE I go to bed- I don’t cook well when I’m half asleep or awake or ever much - anymore.

I just love Federal agencies don’t you? You are on hold for 20-30 minutes (feels like hours) and then you talk to someone who knows less than you do about what you called about. Then after the same thing happening 3 times in a row – well – I’m sorry but I gave up. The really frustrating part is the people I talked to really wanted to answer my questions – they didn’t know the answer even though it was very relative to their department / agency. I don’t know how people could work like that. Some had other numbers to try but the end result was the same. Departmental consular’s???? Hey, It’s a title and it comes with a nice check every month and BENEFITS some of the rest of us can’t afford. (end rant)
Sorry about that – I tried griping to the cactus and got stuck AGAIN.

Peach pie, hmm. That does sound good. I might have to whip one up next week.
ReplyDeleteAnd Grandma Waggener made some awesome pies. I remember she would take any leftover pie dough, apples and red hots and make little hand pies. They were wonderful.
