Some months ago Dawn was talking about her small palm tree-bush- plant in their back yard. She said it didn’t look like it was suppose to and described it as a multi trunk-ed low growing fan palm. Hum that took some thought – but I said it probably needs trimming to get the shape – I can do that. Then the pace around “old #5” picked up and while the need to “get her done” continued to grow my energy and drive diminished. A minor (now) infection was contributing to my laid back, not very ambitions nature, excessively. Well today I “got her done.” Wow I even kind of like it now and I’m NOT a palm fan at all. In general they are interesting to see and when the wind blows, very interesting to watch them bend and sway but so far no one has suggested any real redeeming value to them. NO I don’t care a lot for dates! That’s only one general species. (chuckle)
I bled from a lot of places, (Yes they have sharp pointed things all up & down their arms) located a nest of wasps & dispatched them, picked up all the trimmed arms and had an excellent beverage & visit and headed home. The palm is now a low growing palm (it’s about 5’ tall now) with 8 trunks growing from the base with palm fronds growing from the ends ONLY - NOW. No it won’t stay that way but it took several years for it to get the way it was so I probably have an annual project to schedule. The blood loss is being relinquished as I type (hopefully) the wasps nest is history along with it’s residents and MOST of the “sharp pointed things” are out of my hands and arms. Now it’s past time to wash off all the dirty and WHOOPS a couple more “sharp pointed things” just announced their presence. Yep another. I've heard from one much more I’ll have tweezers handy while I shower – “tain’t nothin new to me I been growing cactus & bougainvillea since 1993.” Actually it was fun – Never did THAT before and figured out how to do it so it caused the least number of pointless injections and punctures, especially from the wasps. They are not MY friends . . . Even less so now. I wonder about vegetarians – do they NOT swat flies and mosquitoes or do living creates have to attain a certain weight or size to be shielded from humans? As you’ve probably heard in years past, from a more interesting personage than me “inquiring minds want to know.” Who Said that regularly?
