During my formative years my diet was based on meat and potatoes. Meat being (in order of quantity & frequency) chicken, pork and beef an occasional rabbit or squirrel and some fish from time to time. Most know that the chicken (quantity & frequency) was a tad over my limit I guess. In early adulthood that being until recently (chuckle) I rarely had much opportunity to deviate from that dietary routine. OK, opportunity Yes, Desire NO. Frankly there are just too many diverse ways of preparing pork and beef. Plus most other meats that are available make my wallet cringe which has a direct effect on my enjoyment of things. When Bill mentioned that he wanted to “do” a leg of lamb just because he never had and then announced that he’d snagged one on a special deal with the Fry’s local meat manager I thought “Cool”- Just because he never had done one was reason enough for Bill. All this resulted in him calling yesterday afternoon. Yep it’s in the smoker! AND he’s making all the appropriate side dishes and sauces. I had partaken of lamb previously and had not been impressed. I was favorably surprised to find that roasted and adorned and surround with the typical condiments it was good. In fact ,Very Good. I thought long and hard about the experience while eating and came to believe that I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much without all the “other stuff” that really made it great. All together a delightful experience and delightful isn’t one of my normal words but I can’t think of any other word that accurately describes the occasion.
