More quality (?) Scout time. I found out why the speedometer needle was jumping all over the place unfortunately I was responsible for the issue. I ?think? it’s OK now. Then I discovered a coolant leak. OK I know that when I put in the new radiator I SHOULD have replaced the hoses as a matter of course but my frugal nature over rode my common sense. We all know when we do things like that that a price will be extracted. In this case resulting in more fun ahead - NOT. Oh I did more than that today- The shop was ready for Shorty to do his thing before Shorty was ready. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t cleaned up and put away in too long. Alas and amuse – it was Shorty who couldn’t find his tools for his project that made it a carryover project for him. It was just a non audible chuckle situation and not funny at all if I hadn’t been having such fun climbing under the Scout and the back out and into the driver’s seat with both arms buried in the dash at angles they were not designed for. Repeat that scenario a lot (A LOT!) of times and you arrive at a place that any excuse to smile or chuckle is a treasured moment.
I often wonder why I continue “The News From Here.” I don’t have a good reason – the reason I use is that to some extent it holds my feet to the fire and provides SOME degree of accountability to and for myself. It also gives me a record of my days most of which I find amusing to myself when I try to justify some of my actions. It also reminds me a pipefitter I knew at Olin (Winchester Western) over 50 years ago. He was always signing or whistling. When asked why he was always “signing or whistling” he’d say “Hey I got a wife, eight kids and a farm to support, I gotta do something to keep from crying.” All of which was true and it worked for him some of us wished he could sing and whistle in tune but I never mentioned it- He did pretty well considering.
Well, whatever reason you can come up with (or not) please keep writing the News.
