No torrential rain today but early morning showers returned. Little green shoots are showing up growing in the granite. Good thing spraying them isn’t a big deal. BUT the Texas Sage bush next to Shorty’s back door is LEANING, It’s about 8 feet tall right now again so I ?think? it’s because the ground is SO wet. Not sure what I want to do about it. I’ve cut it back to just to a few feet tall several times and other times it’s gotten to 14’ tall. It’s in full growth mood so it’s HEAVY and leaning over the open patio next to Shorty’s back door. It was a house warming gift from ‘Roosevelt’. A young Haitian living in a halfway house up the street. In those days residents there HAD to find work, any work. Work for an hour or for a day… If they weren’t working they had to be out looking – not just hanging around their quarters. Roosevelt had never worked at anything. He explained to me that ‘working’ wasn’t part of his culture. He explained that there wasn’t any work – if ya got hungry ya caught a fish. Lots more to that story but I often think of him & Paul Webb. Someone else living in the same place. Both were willing but neither had ever worked at a job. Paul was from NY. They helped us get the place livable. Old PC Schooley was living with us and helping at that time. PC couldn’t remember Roosevelt’s name – EVER. Old Pard would go through at least 6 presidents names before he got to Roosevelt’s. All was in fun and sure made a lot of hard dirty work, almost fun. After things were pretty well under control here they’d stop by to visit. Paul did that often for several years. Once he got a real job he’d bring presents by on Christmas or just stop and bring us up to date with his life. Paul gave presentations at CA (cocaine anonymous) meetings regularly. He asked me to go with him once. I did – talk about uncomfortable (me). Over half attending were stoned (not high – stoned) but Paul did an impressive job. Oh Well enough of that- Actually a little too much of it likely- That was an exceedingly tough time and but well worth the effort now. Thank You Lord.
